Syracuse University has opened a paid, fully-remote, research opportunity for the people living with HIV. The ACCEPT Study involves a telephone-based treatment for alcohol use and stress.
The study is a pilot randomized clinical trial of a telephone-based acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) intervention. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive one of two treatments that focus on alcohol use, COVID-related stress, and other health practices. The study is being conducted by Dr. Sarah Woolf-King and Dr. Stephen Maisto, professors of psychology at Syracuse University. The study is funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (R34AA026246) and registered on clinicaltrials.gov (NCT 03974061).
Study participation is completely remote and involves four telephone-based assessments plus four to six telephone-based treatment sessions over a six-month period. Compensation for participation in the entire study is up to $330. To be eligible, participants must be HIV-positive, currently prescribed ART, and a current alcohol consumer who is willing to discuss his/her/their alcohol consumption.
