The Affordable Care Act (ACA) enables people living with HIV to obtain health insurance at GetCoveredIllinois.gov. Insurance plans may no longer deny coverage to people living with HIV or with any other pre-existing condition.
The ACA also makes Medicaid coverage available to more Illinois residents and families, lowers Medicare prescription drug costs, and ensures the coverage of certain preventive health care services.
The AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP Medication Assistance), Continuation of Health Insurance of Coverage Program (CHIC Premium Assistance), and Ryan White Part B can provide further assistance, beyond what the ACA does, to make health care and support services more accessible to people living with HIV.
