The Affordable Care Act (ACA) enables people living with HIV to obtain health insurance through the Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace. The AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP Medication Assistance Program, or MAP), Premium Assistance Program (PAP), and Ryan White Part B can provide further assistance, beyond what the ACA does, to make health care and support services more accessible to people living with HIV.
If you enroll in an Illinois Marketplace plan and want to receive all the Ryan White Part B, ADAP-MAP and PAP benefits for which you qualify, you must enroll in one of the plans approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health during the open enrollment period. Learn more.
Due to the ACA, insurance plans may no longer deny coverage to people living with HIV or with any other pre-existing conditions. The ACA also makes Medicaid coverage available to more Illinois residents and families, lowers Medicare prescription drug costs, and ensures the coverage of certain preventive health care services.
ADAP Medication Assistance Program, or MAP, provides FDA-approved medications to low-income HIV+ individuals. The formulary currently consists of 80 different drugs, including all anti-retroviral therapies. Learn more.
The Illinois Department of Public Health offers a health insurance premium payment program to assist people with HIV/AIDS who have an Illinois marketplace insurance plan, Medicare Part D, a Medicare supplemental plan, or another commercial group health insurance plan. The Premium Assistance Program (PAP) helps to cover the costs of a single or family plan and to include a spouse and children on a family health insurance plan. Learn more.

The Common Patient Assistance Program Application (CPAPA) allows individuals living with HIV and/or their providers/caregivers to use one application to apply for multiple patient assistance programs (PAPs).
