The Illinois HIV Integrated Planning Council (IHIPC) has opened up its recruitment cycle for 2020 membership. IHIPC is seeking to fill at least four at-large, non-voting member positions on the group. At-large members go through the same application and selection process, and have all the training, meeting attendance, and committee participation responsibilities of voting members except for voting. Should one of our voting members leave the group prior to the next membership selection period, an at-large member will automatically transition into that role.

The deadline for applications is Sept. 15.  The IHIPC Membership Application Cover Letter provides an overview of the IHIPC and the roles, responsibilities, and expectations of membership. Please make sure you read this before considering completing an application. It is important that you fully understand the expectations and responsibilities of membership before making that decision. The IHIPC Membership Application is a fillable PDF document for your ease of completing. The application can be completed and saved electronically or can be printed off and completed by hand. Once completed, feel free to email, mail, or fax the application by Sept. 15 for consideration. The contact information is included on the application.

The IHIPC strives to have adequate representation from every region of the state, with expertise and experience from HIV care, prevention, and other related areas, and inclusive of special populations, all risk groups and race/ethnicities. The IHIPC recently conducted a gap analysis of its current membership to determine its areas of weakness. The IHIPC has determined that people meeting one or more of the following areas of representation will be prioritized for membership selection for 2020:

  • People residing/working in Region 1 – northwest Illinois (most-prioritized); People residing/working in Regions 2, 4, 5, 6, or 7 (still-prioritized, but not as high). See regional map.
  • Young adults (aged 18-24)
  • People who are Black, Hispanic, or of “Other” race (Note: “Other” includes Asian, American Indian or Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, or multiple races), specifically:
    • Black people representing men who have sex with men (MSM) and/or people who inject drugs (PWID)
    • Hispanic people representing MSM and/or PWID
    • People of “Other” race representing MSM

It should also be noted that anyone who identifies as a member of one of the prevention priority populations and/or as a person living with HIV is prioritized in the membership selection process.
