Two New Cases of Meningococcal Meningitis Confirmed

In February and March 2016, two new cases of meningococcal meningitis have been identified, both caused by the same serogroup as seen in the outbreak that began in 2015. Seven cases of Neisseria meningitides serogroup C, including one death, were reported among Chicago-area gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) in May and June 2015.

Gay, bisexual, and other MSM travel to Chicago for a variety of reasons, including the many spring and summer events that occur in the city, such as International Mr. Leather (May 27-30, 2016); Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride (June 26-27, 2016); Black Pride (July 1-4, 2016); and North Halsted Street Market Days (August 13-14, 2016). Click here for full announcement.
